Earlier this month, the 8th Annual Great Seafood Cookoff, a regional cuisine show-down of “feastly” proportions, was held in New Orleans to crown the top Seafood chef in the nation.
With representatives from as far away as New Jersey, chef’s from around the nation came together to show off what their state had to offer in terms of seafood. Some chose to showcase the sustainability efforts being made within their communities, while others came to share some good-ol’ seafood recipes passed down from their grandparents.
When it was all said and done, it was Alabama’s own Jim Smith who was crowned the king of the Seafood Cookoff. Smith is the head chef at the Alabama Governor’s Mansion, perfecting his craft at Johnson and Whales culinary school in North Carolina and working with chefs Frank Stitt and Chris Hastings.
