Right renovations pay off in slow market

Remodeling Magazine’s 2008-2009 Cost vs. Value Report, produced each year in conjunction with Realtor Magazine, contains good news about the value of remodeling projects.

The recent Cost vs. Value Report showed that renovations on a nationwide basis held their value better than home prices did in 2008. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), home prices declined 7 percent in 2008, while the value of homeowners’ investments in remodeling dropped only 2.8 percent in 2008.

Searching for a home can be draining in “normal” times. When inventory is high and home mortgages are more difficult to obtain, the process of finding a property and securing financing can be downright exhausting.

“Creating financing” is one of the items that is “in” for 2009, according to an annual survey conducted by Mark Nash, a Coldwell Banker broker and real estate author who uses a network of 839 Realtors in all 50 states and eight Canadian provinces to acquire consumer responses to a variety of housing questions.

Kaiser Realty, Inc. sales assiciates took to the links at the Cypress Bend course at Craft Farms Aug. 24 as part of the annual Mary’s Shelter golf tournament. Kaiser Realty and Cosmo’s Restaurant and Bar were the title sponsors of the tourney. Mary’s Shelter is a home in the Elberta area that provides housing, education, counseling and supportive services for young women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.  “We were more than pleased to sponsor the tournament and support Mary’s Shelter,” Kaiser Realty Vice-President Glen Kaiser said. “The great work Jo Godfrey, Jack Gleeson and the others at Mary’s Shelter do can’t really be described with just words.
