The 5th Annual Oyster Cook Off

November 3rd at 11am join food networking stars, local restaurants and backyard grill masters as they battle for 1st place in the 5th Annual Oyster Cook off!  The contest will be held at The Hangout in Gulf Shores, “Where 59 Ends, & the Fun Begins”. Enjoy live music from the Banditos, LF Knighton and The Soul Rebels Brass Band  along with football showing on the big screens and with all these oysters being cooked, someone has to eat them! For all you Oyster lovers tickets can be purchased to sample the oysters prepared by the different teams. This event is free to the public so grab your family and friends and head down to The Hangout for one of South Alabama’s most delicious bits of heritage, The Oyster.

28th Annual Frank Brown Songwriters Festival

November 8th through the 18th The 28th Annual Frank Brown Songwriters Festival will once again return to the Gulf Coast! Frank Brown was a night watchman at the Flora-Bama for 28 years. Not retiring until he was 91, Frank kept peace at the Flora-Bama with his genuine caring attitude towards other people. As Frank would say, “Success is when a man gets what he wants; happiness is when a man wants what he’s got.”

The festival will showcase Grammy Award winning songwriters and up and coming stars performing their own original written songs. Coastal Christmas

November 23rd signals the official Kick Off of Coastal Christmas! What is Coastal Christmas? Coastal Christmas, since most everyone knows the only thing white we see here all year is the beautiful sugar, white sand beaches (no complaining here), our community has put together different events to help get in the Holiday Spirit! The first event they have in line up this year will be Santa by Fire on November 25th at the Gulf State Park Pavilion. But the fun doesn’t stop there!

December 1st pictures with Santa have been arranged at the Cotton Bayou Beach Access from 2p.m. to 5p.m. with all proceeds benefiting youth mission trips.  After you get your pictures made and while you are all dressed for the occasion, head on over to the Taste of the Islands, presented by The Mystic Order of Mirams at The Wharf Conference Center. The Taste of the Islands will be held from 6p.m. until 11p.m. There will be a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting Toys for Tots. Visit The Mystic Order of Mirams  for ticket information.

The fun continues to roll through out the month with a very exciting Santa Drop on December 8th at the Flora Bama. Santa, leaving the reindeer’s at home to rest up for their big night, has decided to parachute onto our beautiful beaches to join us all in the fun of great live music, entertaining games, and to provide himself for wonderful Christmas photos to be taken. Visit Coastal Christmas for a complete list of all events being held from November 23rd through January 1st.

The 5th Annual Kaiser Realty Coastal 1/2 Marathon, 5K, and 1 Mile Run

Lace up your running shoes and get ready to shed the “holiday pounds”. November 24th come on out to the Orange Beach Sportsplex and join Kaiser Realty along with family and friends in the 5th Annual Kaiser Realty Coastal 1/2 Marathon, 5K, and 1 Mile Run.

Each distance run has a course set to take your through the beautiful Gulf State Park and all courses are USATF certified courses that begin and finishing at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Online registration closes at midnight on the Tuesday before the race but you can register at the race site on Friday or Saturday. The Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow

The Blue Angels are coming home! Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and head over to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL on November 2nd and 3rd. The gates open at 8a.m. with the show’s beginning at 9a.m. each day.

The show will include  static displays of all types of aircraft. The show can be quite noisy at times and it’s recommended that small children wear some type of protection for their ears. Food and drink vendors will be set up and there will be a handicap area set aside for wheelchairs. Virtual reality experiences will be at hand along with a Kids’ Zone to provide entertainment to the young ones.  The pilots will be signing autographs after the flight show. While you in the area don’t forget to visit the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
